Double Crested Cormorant
From a distance they look like just a large black bird but upon a closer look they have orange on the face and bright blue eyes.
Often seen standing on a rock with their wings spread out drying the feathers, due to....
the fact they have little preen oil on them. This could be one reason they are so agile while under water, and successful at capturing fish.
This one had the fish in it's mouth for quite a while, it looked too big to swallow but it did.
Reintroduced in my area, they are now taking measures to try and reduce their numbers by destroying nests and good nest habitat, as well as allowing a cull.
