Trumpeter Swan
This is one huge bird, up to 6' long and weighing 26 lbs.
They are endangered and these are tagged and hand fed through....
the Winter, this has reduced the loss of life due to migration, where vehicle collisions, hunting and the relative danger of travel has enabled their numbers in this...
area to increase.
It was their feathers, used in hats that decimated the species. But they are recovering. The last one in Ontario was shot in 1886, and have were not seen here in decades. Today they number over one thousand.
An interesting note, they incubate their eggs....
with their webbed feet.
