🇺🇲 A big shout out to all the colleagues and friends of the great #Motherhood community.
I want to tell you about my experience in these first days of taking my three-year-old daughter to school for the first time. As you can imagine and if you do the math, my little girl was not 6 months old when the pandemic began, therefore the issue of socializing was always a concern for me, with no siblings, no cousins and no friends to hang out with regularly. . Except for a couple of meetings with the children of my dearest friends, there was nothing else.
My daughter turned three in August, so I knew that by September she would be old enough to enter preschool. I started researching the schools and preschools that were in the areas near my house, I found two that I liked, so I made an appointment so that my daughter and I could see the place. In both places my daughter entered happy and very excited, she took her straight to the room so that she could meet the children. During the time I was in the interview, my daughter was entertained, and when it was time to leave, she began to cry because she wanted to stay. Although her crying is never something I want to hear, I knew at that moment that she would fit in just fine.
I chose one of the schools and I registered her the week before classes started, in a weekend I prepared the uniform and some things that she would need. During that weekend I talked as much as I could with my daughter, I explained to her more or less what would happen during the time that I would be in school, that I would make new friends, learn many new and fun things, and that of course, I would I would leave but I would go look for her for sure.
I read hundreds of tips to do and tell the memory of leaving her, to give her peace of mind and security in this new stage. They also told me that screaming and uncontrolled crying would be normal, that they would be patient during the adjustment period, and that they would prepare me to cry too. Monday came, we were both very happy, the alarm clock sounded scary, we jumped out of bed, got dressed, packed a backpack and a lunch box.
We arrived at school. I confess that I was a little nervous and anxious, I tried hard not to pass it on to my daughter. She had an indescribable joy. The teacher met us at the door, my daughter let go of my hand and ran in without saying goodbye or looking back. Everything happened so fast that I didn't have time to get nostalgic or reflective, weeks of nerves dissolved in two seconds. The teacher looked for her so that I could give her her backpack that she had forgotten with so much emotion, I took the opportunity to say goodbye without drama, give her a big hug, tell her how much I love her and have the teacher take a picture of us.
He spent that first day, and those who have followed him, calm and happy at school. She adapted quickly and without problems, she was simply eager to socialize, to play, to get out of the house and to learn. It's still a little weird for me to be home without her on days I don't have to go to work. But definitely the word that describes all this is "achievement".
