Cleobelle is a white Longwool Lincoln sheep that was for sale on Craigslist. She was advertised as being bred to a half Shetland, half Racka ram. It turns out that Racka sheep are a beautiful unusual breed from Hungary. Look them up - you'll be amazed. From what I understand there are no purebred Racka sheep in the US because only artificial insemination is used here.
We had Cleobelle several months and she didn't seem to be getting any bigger and I thought she wasn't bred after all. Being disappointed I started composing an email to the people we bought her from asking what could be done about this. We had bought her as being bred and I was really looking forward to having a part Racka lamb. Right as I was typing my husband comes in yelling, "She had a baby. She had a baby!" Okay delete email.
I went out and there she was, a tiny wet baby ewe! Cleobelle was a terrific mom and Violet is now a little bigger than her. She has a light brown face, legs and tail, and creamy coat. No curvy horns. We sheared her the first time this spring and her fleece is very long and soft and beautiful. I'm so pleased. I'm a hand spinner and am looking forward to sitting and spinning this gorgeous stuff into lovely yarn.
Maybe next time I'll tell you about our Angora goats.
