CIA director Mike Pompeo said he would not be surprised if North Korea conducted another missile test after testing in July amid tensions between Washington and Pyongyang.
"I am confident that Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, will continue to try to develop his missile program, so I will not be surprised to have another test," Pompeo told Fox News on Sunday. "He did two tests in July, so it would not surprise me that another missile test "He said.
North Korea announced on Thursday it would complete plans by mid-August to launch four medium-range missiles to fall near the US island of Guam in the Pacific Ocean 3,500 kilometers away.
The island, about 7,000 kilometers from the US mainland, is a target for North Korea because of two US bases, one naval and one airborne.
US President Donald Trump earlier warned Pyongyang, saying that "military solutions (US) are in place and ready in the event of North Korea behaved wisely."
"If you utter one threat, or if you do anything about Guam or any other place that belongs to US territory or an ally of America, you will really regret it and regret it quickly," Trump said in reference to Kim.
The US president also urged the Chinese government to put more pressure on North Korea and is expected to order on Monday a trade inquiry into China.
