Greetings to all the beautiful fellow ladies,

To those who don’t know me, my name is Kahkashan Zafar, and I’m from India. I spent most of my life living in a village until 2017, when my family and I moved to Delhi, the capital of India.

My dad works in Dubai, where he lives alone. He is now 54 years old and still has six more years before he can officially retire and return to India permanently. My younger brother is still studying, so I often find myself worried, what if he doesn’t start earning in time?

In our society, it is often expected that boys are the primary caretakers of the family. I believe this mindset exists in many parts of the world. But despite this, I do whatever I can to help my father, using my small skills. I’m proud to say that I am a teacher.

So, if I had the chance to change one thing about myself, it wouldn’t be a physical trait or a personality quirk. It would be my financial situation. Not for my own luxury, but so that I can finally give my dad the comfort and rest he truly deserves. He has spent years working alone in Dubai, sacrificing time with his family to give us a better life.

A few months ago, my father experienced chest and shoulder pain. Even then, he continued working, pushing through the discomfort because he always puts us first. It broke my heart. I want him to stay with us, to live in peace without worrying about money or responsibilities.

We video call every day, and even though we smile and talk, I know having him physically near us would bring a different kind of happiness, one that no call can replace, the real presence.

I’m doing my best already, taking steps to earn, contribute, and grow. Even though it may not be much, every little bit helps. And when I am able to help, even in the smallest way, it fills my heart with joy.

So no, I wouldn’t change anything about how I look. I love the way God has created me, and I believe we should treat everyone with love and equality. Maybe I have some flaws in my personality too. We all do. But for now, this one change, being in a better financial position matters the most to me.

If you’ve read this far, I sincerely thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts.

A big thank you to the Ladies of Hive Community for this contest. I truly enjoyed writing this and look forward to participating in more in the future.
