I love, love, love reading and recently I discovered audiobooks, and I do love listening to them just as much. So when HiveBookClub posed these questions, I had to answer.
When I was a child and even as a young adult with no commitments (read that as children), most of my free time was spent reading. I could read anytime, anywhere.
I have read in toilets, as a tween because I was forbidden to read Mills & Boons. What happens when you tell a child don't? They do. I have read with a textbook outside and the storybook inside so I'd look like I was studying in class. I have read in libraries and bookstores, at home, in bed, anytime is a good time to read, anyplace as long as it's not moving(I have motion sickness).
In the last couple of months, I have not done what I wanted to do, which is read one book a week. Writing this post made me realise it has been forever since the last book, and it is time to finish my So Big by Edna Ferber.

What makes me enjoy a book? It takes me places, it lets me be anyone, it lets me do anything. And I can do them all from any spot I choose and I don't even need to dress up for the occasion.
I have been on a wishing chair that travelled places (Enid Blyton) and the moors of Yorkshire with a broody man (Wuthering Heights). I was inside the mind of the evil twin (Master Of The Game) and I was rooting for Patty when her love broke her heart(The Parson's Daughter of Oxney Colne). I had a mind-shift (The Celestine Prophecy) and a soul expansion (The Chicken Soup for the Soul series).
I could go on but this quote says it best.
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.” - George R.R. Martin

What do I look for in a story...
I do like stories that twist and turn. Please, let all my guesses as to what happens next be wrong, I want the book to surprise me, shock me, amaze me, jolt me! I want the book to take me where I would not have thought of. I want to have an epiphany, a revelation. I want to feel incredulous, bewildered - just hit me with the unexpected.
I like autobiographies or books loosely based around a real person's life. And if they are reading it even better like Carrie Fisher. I also enjoy books with messages like The Prophet & The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck.
Honestly, I'd read (or listen to) almost anything. Sometimes, I even read and finish because I had started a "meh" book. I think the only book I did not finish is It by Stephen King, but I just couldn't start with the next book because I had not finished. So I threw it behind a cupboard which I could not move to be able to pick up the next book. Oh, I do love Stephen King but found It so boringggggg.
