Instead of punishing myself with various Sims-related Challenges, I decided to create a new family who will one day become Nectar Barons of all the Valley, of all Sim-France -- of the entire Sims World!
This is the story of Honey Hive, an aptly named Sim considering her goal in life and where her life's story shall be told. 😉
Within moments of being created, Honey Hive stood at the front door of her brand new house and took a quick glance around her immediate surroundings.
She released an elongated, unappreciative sniff and whipped open her door.
This was not France.
She could not learn how to make the finest Nectar here -- she needed to go to France!
With zero dollars to her name, it was evident she needed a job before she could dare even fantasise about exotic locations and her future career as Greatest Nectar Baroness Ever.
Meadery Goddess, she smiled.
Becoming a kitchen wench seemed the next logical step. After finding the notice in the paper she was very quickly employed without a resume, a waiting period, or even an interview.
There were two days before her start-date commenced, so Honey Hive decided to go to the local park and indulge in some fresh air. Besides, she had heard much of the free hotdog eating competitions often hosted here.
There was no need for money in Sunset Valley -- she'd have enough to go to France within a week!
She hoped.
"COOKIES!" yelled a strained voice.
Despite her reservations, Honey peered over her shoulder only to find a stressed looking woman with child in hand.
"HI! BLONDIE! LET ME TELL YOU ALL ABOUT COOKIES!"
Honey smiled and nodded for as long as she could manage and then snuck away as the woman's squirming child poked her in the eye.
After sneaking away from the Cookie Monster, Honey found herself drawn to a beautiful flower.
"Ahhhhh," she sighed, breathing deep. Suddenly, moneybags flashed inside her mind and she snapped her fingers, transforming the flower into cold, hard, simoleon-moneys.
Money. Money that could help her get to France faster. MONEY!
She peered left, peered right, then ran at anything and everything she could pick up and stuff into her pockets in the hopes of making money.
After hours of breathing in flowers before selling them, and hours of lumping giant meteorites into her pockets, she was beginning to suffer from allergies and lethargy.
Just as she began to slowly waddle home, exhausted and fatigued, she found a snake. An iridescent snake. A rare snake!
Within a day, without yet working a single minute in the kitchen, she had made over $1000. Her Nectar Quest would be here before she knew it!
Energised by the thought of being in France by possibly tomorrow Honey gained a second wind, spun into something a little more fancy, and ran back to the park. There was a hotdog competition to join; she would have a full belly before going to bed that night.
For freeeeee!
Unfortunately, unaccustomed to the copious amount of bread and frankfurts, Honey came last in the competition and was still trying to finish her plate long after every one else had.
Those people were insane! But at least her tummy was full.
The next day, after successfully spending the morning finding and selling various gemstones, meteorites, metals, mushrooms and flowers, Honey decided to splash around for a bit in the ocean...
...and almost got eaten by a giant fish.
Hurriedly swimming back to shore, Honey realised something.
"Hey! That giant fish must be worth a fortune!"
Whipping a fishing rod out from thin air, Honey set about catching the monster and finalising her trip to France.
Unfortunately, the giant fish was too crafty for her and she only caught minnows.
"This won't get me to France," she huffed, glaring daggers into the beady black eyes of the tiny fish.
Resigned to the fact that she actually had to do kitchen work for a few days before preparing for France and becoming the Meadery Goddess, Honey set to work scrubbing dishes and tripping over the outstretched legs of trollish teenagers.
After several days of swearing beneath her breath, she was at last promoted.
She had saved up $2400 -- surely that was enough to get her to France.
On her next day off from kitchen duties, Honey flicked through her phone and stared at holiday deals.
It would cost $1650 to get to France, and she had $2400.
She had done it.
She was going to France! Home of love and Nectar! Most importantly the Nectar!
Honey Hive booked her flight for later that afternoon, hopped into a taxi without packing a single suitcase, and requested the driver take her to the airport.
"I'm going to France!" Honey declared.
The driver didn't care.
"I'm going to become the Goddess of Nectar and Mead!"
The driver still didn't care.
The driver's rudeness did not bother her. Within five minutes she had left the taxi behind, without paying, had hopped onto a plane, anddddd...
She was here. She was truly here! Now all that remained was to find where the Nectar was at and learn the ways of the French before she would then surpass the French.
Her future as a Nectar Baroness was about to begin.
Her legacy would start this very day!
There was a Vespa parked on the side of the road. She didn't care who it belonged to -- she needed it.
Hopping onto the seat, she raced for the local Nectary and ignored the confused yells at her back.
Honey drove around winding mountains and picturesque peaks until finally arriving at the renowned Nectary of her dreams. She was here, she was here, she was here!
Dumping the Vespa, she raced for the welcoming doors to the centuries-old building and rattled off a list of things she needed.
She would need every historical Nectar book in existence to study, one of those funny grape-stomping machines, and wine racks; LOTS of wine racks.
Pushing open the heavy wooden doors, Honey stepped into the parlour and breathed a deep sigh.
It smelt amazing inside these walls -- she was home.
A smiling clerk greeted her from behind the counter.
"Hallo," he said, in broken English that sounded more German than French. "Vut can I git fah yuu?"
Eagerly, Honey Hive grabbed the brochure out of his hands, ran her eyes down the list, and then froze.
She had made it to France.
She had made it to the Nectary.
She was within pilfering distance of several bottles of hundred-year-old wine.
But she had not taken into account the cost of her hopes and dreams. Although she had earned enough money to get to France, she hadn't enough to buy what she had come for.
She swallowed heavily, handed back the brochure, and left the Nectary without saying a single word. She had three days to make several thousand dollars in a foreign, unknown country.
How the heck was she going to do that?
