I had hoped to upload some photos from my phone onto my laptop, so that I could make a post. I prefer to use my laptop when posting because I can see what I'm writing better, and the desktop version of Ecency has more options. But when I turned on my laptop this morning it was playing up. I couldn't get the mouse to work. So I decided to reboot it.
Generally rebooting a laptop is enough to get most software problems sorted out. Unfortunately this time it didn't work. I just got a message saying that Windows was doing an automatic repair. Then it just hung there. So I left it and did something else. I came back to it about an hour later and it was still hanging there.
I did a hard restart but the same problem. After a bit of searching online using my phone I found out how to get into the repair tools. I tried to get it restore back to a time when it was working. It all looked okay, but I came back and found it was hanging and not progressing.
I thought, maybe the nuclear option would be the best thing and completely reinstall Windows 11. First I tried to do it without losing all my files, but it wouldn't do it. So I tried a full reinstall, but again I got an error message.
I eventually found an article on the Windows website which suggested running some tools from the command prompt. So now my laptop is running through a very long program checking my disk. I've then got a couple of other command prompt tools to try if this one doesn't work.
I know nothing about how operating systems work, so this is all a bit hit and miss. I don't have any spare money to take it to someone who knows what they are doing. So hopefully I will eventually get it to work.
Computers are great - until they start playing up!
