After the great anime success, I decided to finally watch the Live Action of Kanojo Okarishimasu or Rent-a-Girlfriend. I most say that for live actions these are the most honest type of live action as it only requires actors and a good dialog. No special effects, no CGI and not much other things than a good casting and talented acting. That said I most warn you that the Live Action has started to break apart from the anime version as far as the story goes. And this makes me curious on how this new story will develop.
One thing I most point out is that watching the characters interact and develop, they are more expressive of a more diverse feelings than the animation for obvious reason. The animation is full of inner voices and dramatizations of their feelings which never happened in real life and that making this part of the flow of the live action would make it pretty annoying.
So instead the audience needs not use their better judgment to analyze the expressions and understand the non-verbal communication between them. Mami, a clear antagonist on the original anime, doesn't seem so threatening and even could be consider common behavior. But even Chizuru isn't as a 'happy, go lucky girl', but actually looks like a real girl with more serious temper. I most say that this show was well done and planned and made the right choices.
I also like the different sets, let you know how college kids in Japan hang together and develop friendships and loyalty. It feels some realism that not always happen on live actions. I guess this feel more authentic than other similar shows. Highly recommended if you have the chance to watch it. Unfortunately it only has one season and no plans for a sequel to happen.
