I think that's a self-imposed narrative.

The whole narrative of an elite sitting on a table to control everyone's faith is as naive as you going to bed thinking on how to keep the unemployed unemployed. But I bet the unemployed think that the middle class sit on a table to keep the unemployed unemployed.

Imagine being against the government but working on a state owned organization and being payed with everyone's taxes. The irony writes itself.
