Last week, I published an article on the trailer for a documentary on KDE community and anticipated what the documentary was about taken from the trailer. Yesterday, the documentary was premiered, and I had front row seat to it. I had to play it again as some of the parts I had to leave the room. So on the second watch I had a more careful view of how the community was structured.

From the first development of the Kool Desktop, from the CDE interface and a Windows alternative in 1998. But what was going on behind was a rapid community implementing patches and growing exponentially. Getting more and more developers to contribute to the KDE community was a success and by 2000s KDE 2.0 was a great desktop with a lot of applications. The inclusion of Aaron Seigo, and other big names to the ecosystem.

Finally KDE found their big moment at LinuxTag event in Germany, along with Linus Torvalds and other developers recognizing the project.

The documentary is quite good and I highly recommend it. Is a real life story about technology, decentralization and innovation. I won't mention the whole documentary here, instead I encourage you to watch it and leave me a comment on your thoughts. If you ever want to try it on your computer, you can download a virtual machine running it or a liveUSB.
