Social Media Hacking Solution 101; What Are You Doing Wrong...?
It's Friday morning, you wake up, get your bearings about you, and as is your habitual tendency you immediately grab for your smart phone. A quick glance at the face of your lifeline indicates that you received several notifications throughout the night. You unlock the screen and begin thumb scrolling through the notifications, your eye catches on one from Facebook that says 97 of your friends commented on a single post. Curious, you click on that notification to see what has drawn all the overnight attention; "what are people so interested about?" you wonder quietly to yourself. To your horror, the moment your Facebook account opens you see a very tasteless picture posted with an equally derogatory caption...
Your friends have all begun leaving negative comments on the post...
Anxiety and panic set in as you try to determine what has happened. You check some of the other notifications only to find out that some of your friends have left you text messages asking if you have set up a new Facebook account because they have received a "friend request" from you...or even worse, they accepted a new friend request from "you" last night and now there are damaging images and comments on their Social Media feeds as well.
If you've floated around the Social Media platforms for any length of time this has either happened to you directly, or it has happened to somebody you know. 99% of the time you, as the victim, are left wondering what the hell just happened; you know you didn't post that picture, nor have you setup a new account and sent out friend requests...so, how was your account targeted and hacked?
The simple answer is...you do not practice proper personal security while interacting with the internet, and especially social media platforms. There are a number of hacks that can cause you pain and anguish when visiting social media sites. One of the easiest methods is getting you to voluntarily hack yourself. Yes, you read that correctly...more than likely you voluntarily hacked yourself...and here's how.
This hack appears on Facebook more than any other, but similar hacks exist for other social media sites, and they operate in similar fashion. I call them "C.A.P." posts, or Copy and Paste. Believe it or not, embedding hidden virus code in regular text is a fairly easy thing to do. Hackers create the virus code, then they embed it in a post that has been written specifically to touch you on an emotional level...designed and engineered to trigger a very specific response...Copy & Paste. The problem is, as soon as you copy the text of the post, you also copy the hidden viral code onto your device. Depending on what the viral code was written to do, you could find yourself trying to recover more than just your social media accounts...your entire identity may be in jeopardy.
NEVER...I'll repeat that for those who are just skimming through...NEVER, copy and paste anything on social media. If you feel it is worthy of being shared, either hit the SHARE button or rewrite the post yourself, because here's the thing...if you copy & share, and your friends copy and share...and their friends copy and share...the problem begins to escalate like rabbits on goat-weed in a whore-hutch.
