Blockshipping is a project designed to increase the efficiency of the shipping industry taking advantage of the distributed ledger technology by utilizing a Global Shared Container Platform (GSCP). The essence of the platform is to improve the efficiency of the shipping industry while saving shippers billions of dollars through improved inter-connectivity of the shipping process, closer monitoring and full exploitation of resources to avoid waste.
The project will effectively digitalize the shipping industry through integration with blockchain, predictive analysis and artificial intelligence. The inter-connectivity and efficiency created will enable all stake holders to consolidate operational and financial flows, creating greater visibility and tracking efficiency of containers.
The Global Shared Container Platform is an ambitious project that provides a complete blockchain solution, leveraging on the technology to create a container asset registry comprising among other things, full global inventory of all shipping containers. This enables real-time tracking to ascertain location, ownership and if they are loaded or empty. The generated data ensures that these containers are efficiently utilized during transit.
The GSCP, aside saving time and increasing efficiency in the shipping industry also aims to reduce the environmental impact of emission resulting from shipping activities. It is estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emission by 4.6 million tons.

Container based shipping has a lot of challenges that have hindered the efficiency of the industry. One of these confrontations is that some processes have not been optimized. Reports say that 20 percent of all container shipping is not effectively tracked, so one knows the exact location, ownership and state of these containers at some times during transit or storage.
These are 5 million containers which are unaccounted for, thereby causing losses to companies which cannot ascertain their state or if resources are being wasted conveying empty containers from locations where they could have been loaded with cargo taking advantage of available businesses.
Other problems with the current system are substandard customer services, outdated IT systems prone to delays and errors, inability to access real-time location and ownership of all cargoes and complicated paperwork for sale and lease of containers.
The Blockshipping solution to the challenges encountered by the shipping industry is the Global Shared Container Platform (GSCP) which is based on the distributed ledger technology also known as blockchain. The GSCP introduces a global asset registry of the 27 million modal freight containers, thereby enabling real-time tracking of shipping that are constantly in transit and as well keep abreast of the charges incurred during transit.
The system also keeps tab of the ever changing ownership of these containers. These data feeds reliability stems from being based on the blockchain which is tamper proof and transparent.
The project intends to become the point of convergence of management of operational payments between stakeholders among shippers and ancillary services in the industry.
It takes advantage of IoT and machine learning to create visibility for containers which all stakeholders can take advantage of in cargo tracking. This insight is monetized based on IoT, AI, machine learning and blockchain data.
