Any pet or other animal is a huge responsibility in terms of expenses for food and veterinary care in addition to your time.

I owned a puppy for a while when my kids were younger, but then we developed allergies. He was donated to another loving home. Since that time, I haven't owned another animal with growing kids to care for and devote my time to.
