Whilst investigating the death of a local shopkeeper, an understanding painter called Jenna Sparrow uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed, tattered gun circulating throughout Australia. As soon as anyone uses the gun, he or she has exactly 32 days left to live.
The doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day to day life, but when photographed, they look zombified. A marked person feels like a sunny rat to touch.
Jenna gets hold of the gun, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into her mind: a moist hamster balancing on a ginger shopkeeper, an old newspaper headline about a drunk driving accident, a hooded aardvark ranting about fingers and a drinking well located in a crowded place.
When Jenna notices her arms have rat-like properties, she realises that the curse of the tattered gun is true and calls in her grandson, a scout called Brad McCallister, to help.
Brad examines the gun and willingly submits himself to the curse. He finds that the same visions flash before his eyes. He finds the moist hamster balancing on a ginger shopkeeper particularly chilling. He joins the queue for a supernatural death.
Jenna and Brad pursue a quest to uncover the meaning of the visions, starting with a search for the hooded aardvark. Will they be able to stop the curse before their time is up?
