Love your enthusiasm friend, and I agree with you here, there seems to be a plot thickening for global takeover. I think the term you are referring to is "cognitive dissonance".
Wikipedia says "In the field of psychology, cognitive dissonance occurs when a person holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values, or participates in an action that goes against one of these three, and experiences psychological stress because of that."

Another term I like is "suspension of disbelief".
