It has always been said that Spain is an eminently Marian country, because not in vain was it also in the past the prelude to that authentic historical phenomenon known as the Crusades.

Perhaps for this reason, among our numerous historical-artistic heritage, the numerous carvings, especially of Romanesque and Gothic origin, that represent the figure of Mary in the role of her mother stand out.

Almost all of them have as a common feature and inheritance from ancient cultures, the fact of being enthroned and maintaining a hieratic attitude, carrying the globe of the world in one hand (sometimes this is replaced by the apple, the fruit of Original Sin) and the Child in the other, sitting on her lap.

They usually occupy the place of honor of the Main Altarpieces of numerous churches and cathedrals and their shadow projected on the wood, does not stop constituting a hypothetical invitation to speculation, immersing us in that fascinating world of shadows and archetypes, of which the well-known spoke so much Swiss-born psychologist Carl Gustav Jung.
