[Battle review] [Eng | Esp] Batman: The Killing Joke | You only need to have a bad day to go crazy

The Killing Joke is a one-shot graphic novel published in 1988, created by Alan Moore, Brian Bolland and John Higgins, published by DC Comics and has 48 pages; the film adaptation was released in 2016, directed by Sam Liu and produced by DC Entertainment, with a duration of 1 hour 16 minutes. It is a story of superheroes and black humor, it focuses on the Joker, which goes through his mind and that was what led him to his current state, showing him as an unpredictable and terrifying threat that can perform the most vile and perverse acts in order to prove his point, it will be up to Batman and the authorities to hunt down his unleashed madness.

The cruel premise of humanity and how despicable some people can become will always be a topic that by far, that is already a compelling reason powerful enough for you to want to see it. Good review, I send you a greeting and a hug from a distance.

The drawing that the comic has is extremely beautiful with a predominance of dark tones, great uses of shadows and even details that make it look macabre in some points, it is a delight for the eyes. The film is not far behind in terms of this section and does it justice by maintaining that level of detail, taking that style to something much better by preserving the good and adding things that make it even more remarkable.

At first glance the world building is the typical thing you might expect from Batman, Gothic city being besieged by crime and a hooded man giving everything to maintain order, the interesting thing here derives from the concept of what madness is, how an ordinary man can be seen descending into the spiral of madness very quickly. At this point both do it equally well, there is nothing bad to mention, it fulfills what it promises and what it exposes is used in a good way.

This is the first point where the film offers more than the comic, the latter poses a dense narrative with brutal and unpleasant things, it is with all the law a story well done, the fact that it delves in a good way into the origin of the Joker is simply a success wherever you look at it since the phrase "It only takes a bad day to go crazy" it is simply perfect. The animated film does exactly the same thing but goes further, the main difference lies in the fact that it gives a much more detailed context so that those who are not so familiar with the world of Batman can understand everything much better, that is why I consider that at this point the film did slightly better.

Here exactly the same thing happens as in the previous point, the comic presents the characters in another of their typical confrontations, the difference is that it delves into the why of the villain, which led him to that state, and the fact of wanting to prove his point that anyone could be like him. Again here the film follows the pace and even surpasses it since it gives enough prominence to one of the characters who suffers the most during the film, making everything that happens to him feel more important, since enough time was given to get to know the character and that his suffering can affect the viewer in a greater way.

Batman: The Killing Joke is an excellent comic that not only contains grotesque things to show how terrible the focused villain can be but also the idea he holds is quite interesting in general, starting from this the film does it justice to be an extremely attached adaptation that highlights the benefits that the original work has and even adds some others so that it can turn out as something even more remarkable. That is why the comic deserves a rating of 3.5 stars out of 7, and, for its part, the film deserves 4 stars out of 7, really both versions are quite excellent although I recommend watching the film if you are not very soaked as far as the world of Batman is concerned.
