Hello, hiveians! A fraternal and cheerful greeting to this wonderful community and to every single one of you reading today.
Have you ever noticed what happens when a cold strikes at home? When a man gets the flu, his world completely shuts down. We fall into bed as if it were the end of time, get a little dramatic, and there is no human force that can move us unless it is to go to the bathroom or ask for a warm cup of tea. But what about women? A woman can be burning with fever, but she swallows a painkiller and keeps paying attention to everything and everyone, taking care of whatever needs to be done as if nothing were wrong, even while feeling terrible.
In the end, the difference comes down to this: man suffers illness from biology, while woman suffers it from sentiment.
On the man's side, it's pure flesh and bones. Testosterone causes the male immune system to react with a bit of clumsiness against respiratory viruses; the fever and muscle aches hit so hard that they literally disarm him. It is not just an excuse: a man's body feels the biological impact as if a truck ran over him, which is why he completely shuts off, acts like a needy child, and surrenders to the role of being sick.
In women, on the other hand, empathy and affection come into play. Female hormones provide a biological shield that allows them to resist physical discomfort better, but what keeps a woman on her feet is not just her body—it is her heart. Woman suffers from sentiment, from that emotional connection and sense of care toward her loved ones that does not switch off even with fever. Her mind simply won't let her stay in bed because she feels others need her, and she finds it terribly hard to rest as long as there is someone around her to care for.
In summary: biology knocks the man down and he retreats into his pain; sentiment sustains the woman and keeps her standing for others, even if she is carrying the weight inside.
Thank you for taking care of us.
Signed,
Man
¡Hola, hivers!
