Poloniex sends out email confirming data leak

Another day, another data leak in crypto land.

This one comes at the expense of Poloniex users.

The following email was sent out within the past few hours to affected Poloniex customers:

It's been strangely quiet out there about the leak, but it doesn't appear to be a hoax.

The Poloniex Customer Support Twitter page confirmed the email was indeed legitimate with the following...

“This is a real email! Please reset your password for account security.”

This shouldn't impact any former Poloniex users within the US, but for those using Poloniex outside the US, it might be a good idea to reset passwords.

It also might be a good idea to change passwords on other exchanges if you use the same email and password in multiple places (specifically Poloniex), as I am sure unscrupulous characters will probably try to login on multiple exchanges.
