My hands are shaking as I type this. I saw death face to face today. Is this how people just give up in a second? I have never been more grateful for life than I am now. I give glory to God for saving me from what would have been a disaster and a gone too soon story.
So I woke up this morning and decided to wash the guest room's toilet. It has been quite some months now and we haven't had any guest that has slept over. Since we barely use it, I stayed off all this while. But today, I felt the need to wash it for no particular reason actually. I changed my outfit to something more comfortable because I wanted to wash thoroughly. Hubby was home and I told him I was going to wash toilet. He asked me if I was expecting anyone and I said no that I was led in my spirit to wash it. He jokingly asked if my spiritual friends are coming tonight, I just laughed and headed to the room.
I poured the hypo toilet cleaner into the water cistern and added detergent too. I usually just wash with the toilet cleaner alone but since it was long, I just felt that I should go extra to make the toilet sparkle. After I added the detergent too, I bent down to wash and I inhaled a very strong gas. Before I knew what was happening, I started gasping for breath. My eyes too started itching me. I shouted and since the room was not close to where my husband could hear me, he couldn't come at once.
Detergent
I was choking so much coupled with a serious cough and my itchy eyes. I started screaming "Jesus". That was the only thing I could manage to say. Here I was, struggling with my life. I managed to get out of the toilet and was trying to crawl to the door at least. My voice was beginning to fade gradually.
Luckily, I kept my phone on the bed before I entered the toilet. I managed to reach out to it and dialled my husband's number. Now I usually call my husband sometimes and when he comes I just tell him that I want to see his face. So sometimes when I call like that, he doesn't respond because he knows it's for nothing. And yes he didn't pick this time. But he came into the room and saw me lying so helpless on the floor. He managed to lift me up and we headed to the hospital.
I was taking straight to the emergency unit and got some medications to help me feel better. I am fine now but I can't believe that few moments ago I was in a state of helplessness. I am grateful that I am well now. The doctor explained that it was chlorine poisoning and advised that next time I should immediately get fresh air.
Thank God for my life. What would have happened if there was no one in the house?. So this is how I would have been laid to rest just like that. I am thankful for God's intervention. For now, let that toilet just be like that. Hubby has been so scared since. He has just been looking at me without saying a word. I am sure he is wondering what he would have done if another thing had happened. I thank God for His mercies.
