It is so pathetic that in some countries, the value of a woman is still placed behind the door. Especially in Africa, women are placed where they are looked down on and cannot utter a word where their male counterparts are having a conversation that even concerns them.
I am a woman, so what?
Here is the story
My aunty just lost her husband and came home to tell her husband's people. The elders hushed her and told her that she has no right to convey the message to the elders. That she should meet either of her husband's brother to come and pass the message across. At first, that sounded so stupid to me because how on earth can a woman who just lost her husband not be able to pass the message of her husband's death to her in-laws simply because she is a woman.
Now she did as they said and then the big problem started. She told her husband's people that she wants her husband to be buried on a particular date that she feels would be convenient for her. According to her, she needs to gather enough funds to be able to lay him to rest the way she finds it fit to.
Shockingly, her request was rejected. Giving a reason that she cannot fix a date for them. That they will fix the date for their brother's burial after all she killed their brother. It turned out that one time she and her husband had an argument, he went home to report her to his people. So now, the elders used that as a base to defend their decision.
Having said that, one would expect that they would carry the burden from her but instead, they gave her the list and told her to provide all for the burial rites. What the hell does that mean, that you won't let her bury her husband on a date that she feels will be okay but you want to force a date on her and still expect her to bring everything that needs to be used for the burial.
This is wickedness of the highest order if you ask me.
I am just imagining if it were to be a man, would they have rejected the date that he fixed to bury his wife? Would they have asked him to bring his sisters to announce the death of his wife? Then why the hell should they treat a wife who just lost her husband that way just because she is a woman. And for a mourning woman, is this how she is suppose to be treated? Putting unnecessary pressure on her at this time is nothing but a demonic move.
I feel so sorry for her but then what to do? I hate how some African men treat women. No matter what a woman does, she is barely valued. She cannot inherit her father's property, she cannot speak out in meetings, she cannot sit in front of the vehicle where there are men because they think she cannot protect herself. When she gives birth to only girls, she is called a stranger in the land and can be thrown out of the house at any moment because she has no male Child.
Why must she go through all of this problems just because she is a woman. So so crazy.
I am a woman so what? I have the right to make my decision and do that which suits me perfectly. I am first a human being, before being a woman. Just like the male folks are allowed to live their lives, I should live my life too.
