Yes, you read it right and we are so happy! In preparation for her delivery, we made sure that she is ready. In this blog, I will share with you Akira’s story and the things we did days before Akira gave birth to 3 very cute puppies. 🐕🐕🐕
Let me tell you a story.
My boyfriend “E”, is very fond of racing pigeons. As in! He spends almost his time taking care of them. And then one day, one of his friends, who is also fond of pigeons, offered E to have a SWAP. Now E thought that his friend meant a bird-to-bird (pigeon-to-pigeon) swap but all along his friend clarified that he wanted to have a pigeon-to-dog swap. So they exchanged messages that it was a Japanese breed dog in exchange with two pigeon chicks and eventually, E grabbed the offer. If you were in his position, would you grab it? If me, yes! Who wouldn’t want to, right? 🤣 E's friend added that the dog already completed her sessions with the vet (deworming/anti-parvo). And as easy as that, we got the dog!
Excitedly, I googled some Japanese dog names and the name “Akira” caught my eye which means”bright” and it sounds very nice and interesting. So Akira, it is! 😃
Akira became so attached with our family and even sleeps in our bed. Haha, she waits for me outside the house when I arrive from work. She is so sweet ❤️
A year later, it was December 2020, we noticed that her vulva was bleeding. We consulted and found out that it was her season to procreate (the urge to have a pair). Now, an estimated 60 days later on February 19, 2021, she gave birth to 5 puppies namely: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Storm which then we gave to our friends and E’s family. 😄
(They are only three here. I don't know where the two are. 😅)
Now, learning that Akira’s season is during December, I already had the idea that December 2021 is her next season. Months passed and I was right! 😃 Her vulva bled and we paired her to another Japanese dog. It was difficult because typhoon Odette came and Akira was urging. We still managed to take her to the boy dog named Toby which was just a couple of blocks away from our house. We provided her with some vitamins for her baby.
The Preparation
We already knew that Akira is about to give birth anytime now, so we prepared her through grooming. And one good thing when grooming Akira is she behaves and listens when you call her name.
With the assistance of Papa, we were able to groom Akira and bathe her afterward.
First, we trimmed her lengthen hair. This way, she can easily feed her babies and at least keep her ventilated because we still have to wait 5-7 days before we bathe her again after giving birth.
After that, we immediately brought her to a bath. Using clean tepid water, we applied soap across her body and massaged it thoroughly for about 2-3 minutes. With this, since we used this soap (even though it’s not that scented), Akira experienced a minimal number of flees. I think that’s why we keep using this.
We then washed her with water and applied the shampoo after. The shampoo made Akira’s hair smooth and sweet-scented.
Unfortunately, we were not able to cut Akira’s nails because I guess she’s afraid of the cutter.
Very good, Akira! Very behave. 👏
And then four days later …. It was February 16, 2022, at 2:00 am.
Akira gave birth to 3 cute puppies! The black (male) one came out first, and the white (female) was next and the brown (male) came out last. She did the delivery on our bed! Yes, on our bed (I don't know if I should be happy or not). Because of that, I was not able to sleep well. 🤣 I transferred to the sala to give her the space but I wasn’t still able to sleep well.
Now, they are a week old but we haven’t yet given them their final names. My sister (Jessica) and my niece (Kiarra, a 6-year-old kid), have their names and thought that we should name them after our 2 favorite dogs who passed away, namely: Scooby (brown) and Luna (white). We don’t have a name yet for the black one. Kiarra suggested it should be Panda because of the mixed white and black color which I think is also correct 🤣. What do you think? What do you have in mind? What can you suggest? Please let me know 😄
