I think this is the reason why Jesus put Satan to flight with God's Word. He could have easily done this with his divine powers, but instead he quoted from the Old Testament (Luke 4:1-13) so that those who follow him would do the same and follow his example.

It is like baptism, which the one who is free of sin does not need, but he insisted on being baptized (Matthew 3:13-17) in order to show his followers what he expects of them, what serves them best, and what is an important step in obedience.
