Greetings people from the Amazing Nature Community. Happy to be able to share with you another Amazing Caterpillar, which allowed me to become a detective, digging the web.

How I found it

On one of my morning walks, I observed from afar a plant that had been devastated in almost all its leaves, would an insect be responsible? I got closer and at first I couldn't find the cause, but looking carefully I detected a family of caterpillars very beautiful due to their color and design.

I was struck by the fact that they were grouped together, then investigating I discovered that this is one of their characteristics when they are in the first moments of their larval phase.

Use Google Lens to locate the name and classification of this species. (At first the search took me to cactus, but I asked him to look for similar images and the name of the Caterpillar appeared.

Scientific Name

This is a variety of moth (nocturnal) of the genus Archeria Sp. possibly called_ Sabine Fusca, they are also used the names of: Slug Moth (because it crawls with its body instead of using its legs to move), and Saddleback Caterpillar (because it grows tufts of hair and spots on its back and head. (I expanded the search and there are few images of the Caterpillar at this stage as I found them).

However, I do not consider the results to be one hundred percent accurate, I found few references of this kind. And the one I found generated doubts in me, the first is that the experts discuss classifying these families of Lepidoptera, since they seem to lack legs. And the second is that you may have to wait for them to develop a little more, because it is possible that they are in an early phase of their larval development, and other features that they currently do not have will still appear, for example tufts and spots on the back.

Cómo la encontré

En una de mis caminatas matutinas, observé desde lejos una planta que había sido devastada en casi todas sus hojas, ¿un insecto sería responsable? Me acerqué y al principio no encontré la causa, pero revisando con cuidado detecté una familia de orugas muy hermosas por su colorido y diseño.

Me llamó la atención que estaban agrupadas, luego investigando pude descubrir que esa es una de sus características cuando están en los primeros momentos de su fase larvaria.

Usé Google Lens para ubicar el nombre y clasificación de esta especie. (al principio la búsqueda me llevaba a cactus, pero le pedí que buscase imágenes semejantes y apareció el nombre de la Oruga.

Nombre Científico: Sabine Fusca

Se trata de una variedad de polilla (nocturna) del genero Archeria Sp. posiblemente llamada_ Sabine Fusca, también se usan los nombres de: Polilla Babosa (por que repta con su cuerpo en vez de usar sus patas para moverse), y Oruga Ensillada (pues le crecen penachos de pelos y manchas en el dorso y cabeza. (Amplié la búsqueda y hay pocas imágenes de la Oruga en esta fase como yo las encontré).

Los resultados sin embargo no los considero, cien por ciento exactos, encontré pocas referencias de esta especie. Y las que encontré me generaron dudas, la primera es que los expertos discuten de clasificar estas familia de Lepidopteras, pues parecen carecer de patas. Y la segunda es que quizás deba esperar a que se desarrollen un poco más, pues es posible que se encuentre en una fase temprana de su desarrollo larvario, y aún aparezcan otros rasgos que actualmente no tienen, por ejemplo penachos y manchas en el dorso.
