The main reason I stopped visiting was the cartel violence and Americans have been targeted at times

Does the violence still continue till today? I thought all that was way back in the 1990s and everything would have been back to normal, apparently I was wrong. Although Mexico doesn't seem like one of my favorite places, but I guess it has a warmer weather than that of the US
