I've watched just about all the documentaries on jungle and drum & bass, but recently came across the most accurate and in depth documentaries on not only drum & bass but UK urban and underground music in general.
The creator of these documentaries, The Anylist, is an independent producer as well as a talented film maker and i think that positively impacted the affect in breaking down not only the history of jungle/drum and bass, but intricately portraying the pioneers of the music, the grass roots pirate radio era, the social aspects in relation to this music form and all of the sub genres and varying sounds that are continually evolving.
Also, as The Anylist documents, even though Drum & Bass sometimes will peak out into the mainstream or commercial world briefly for a period, it will always and i do mean always flourish mainly underground, the soul of the music can never be taken mainstream, unless you are Goldie, but he was a pioneer and never deviated from the true underground sound and spirit of the music, he always made a point that drum and bass is an art form, much like jazz, and that most of the commercial or mainstream music is shit and void of soul. When you hear a drum and bass, garage, house or dubstep track in the charts, it is an after effect of how healthy the music form is underground (the cause), it has to bubble to the surface every now and then.
It is simply the human soul creating without boundaries, prevailing over selling out completely. In truth, the mainstream back in the 90s and early 2000s was much more organic and it was a good indicator of what was flourishing underground. Nowadays, the corporate moguls have completely emptied the mainstream of soul but that only creates a stronger reaction underground and therefore, more innovative and soulful forms of music free of authority and the criminal class (the elite) will continue to flourish at a more rapid rate. It's all cycles and the push and pull of tyranny versus freedom i think. The friction produces great art.
After being a dnb head for 20 plus years i can tell you, that the underground is where it belongs and will ultimately remain. It doesn't need to be shilled for financial gain or status, and it is about the only thing left on the planet that doesn't and to me that makes it incredibly special. It's been mostly underground for almost 30 years now and has had no problem with being a worldwide music or art form. I said it at 15, 25 and i'll say it at 35 - Jungle/Drum and Bass will never die.
There is also a part 1 which documents the origins of Jungle music which you can find on the creators channel, I highly recommend watching that, and there is also a truly excellent in depth documentary on UK Garage and Bassline music. I found the part about the origins of 2-step garage and it's link to drum & bass particularly interesting and accurate.

One thing i know for sure is that music brings people together, especially grassroots movements. Music enhances relations, creativity, mental well-being and therefore world peace. This ain't rocket science or government, this is an example of true anarchy in action. This is where human evolution occurs. Don't listen to scientists, governments, schools, parents, corporations, or anyone in authority. Authority is absolutely an illusion and only you know what your truth is. Simply listen to your heart, then do what you love and share.
