I wrestled with this a lot....
We're going to do a little bit of story time with Jongo here...And go back about 15 years or so. I was talking to one of my business partners and we were talking about our third partner. He was a devout Christian, even though two of us weren't.
My partner explained to me that our Christian partner believed in....The young earth!
I wasn't even sure what that meant exactly so I proceeded to ask some questions....And I'm paraphrasing the conversation here:
Partner: Yeah man, this guy actually thinks the world is like 6000 years old or something. It's wild!
Me: Wait a minute, I mean, hasn't he read the science books?
Partner: Yup, he's insane. Dude actually thinks dinosaurs lived only a few thousand years ago....
Yup, this was something I had never heard of before. There were people out there that didn't believe, what all the science books on the planet have been beating into our minds since kindergarten.....The books said we were billions of years old (the earth) while one book said...We were only 6000 years old.
Like I said, I struggled with this because of the education I had received and I couldn't believe anyone would actually believe this stuff. But here I am, all these years later believing....
The one book that went against the traditions of man.
Call me insane if you want now, but I did a lot of digging and without getting into the actual science of it all, let me just go by what the bible says.
Beside John 3:16. I would argue that this is the most famous bible verses in history. Because well, it's the beginning of our history. I believe that the Lord created the earth in 6 literal days, and of course rested on the seventh.
But is this just some whacked out religious belief with zero facts behind it?
Remember from the first study that we did, I believe every word of Scripture. Everything. So when you break down what the original Hebrew says in the creation account of Genesis, it literally means....six 24 hour periods of creation. Morning and night. And it was very good ;)
Believing in creation is a big jump for a lot of believers. We'll hear things like we don't know if it was actually 6 days. There could have been millions of years between each day. There are a lot of things people wrestle with when it comes to creation.
But life cannot come from death. In the history of science, you can never find something dead, creating life. It just doesn't happen so...Something created us.
And this is beautiful!
This shows us that our creator actually had His hands in our lives from day one. The power of this scripture is on another level when you get into the plan of salvation and onward...
One of the greatest books I ever read when it came to the creation account was 'Origin By Design' By Harold Coffin. This thing challenged everything I ever thought I knew about what the 'history books' told us.
If you want to dive into some visual presentations about creation and how it can challenge the beliefs you may have had for years, you can always check out 'Is Genesis History' on YouTube. I'll post a link to the full movie below, it's very well done!
All in all, I'm a creationist because....I'm a bible believer. And the story of creation truly does point to the God of scripture. A God of love (1 John 4:8) and a God that ultimately wants us in His presence.
