Hey hivers, I've got a few questions for you, please get a pen and paper, and answer them as honestly as possible. Ready?

  1. When's the last time you checked any of your social media accounts?
The last time you played a mobile game?
  2. When's the last time you mindlessly scrolled through your phone, comparing yourself with others, as your anxieties (subconsciously) rise up..?
  3. When's the last time you talked ~~i mean really talked and bonded and laughed ~~ with your closest friends /bffs?
  4. When's the last time you actually HAD a (R-E-A-L) conversation with your parents and/ or your siblings?
  5. When's the last time you laughed at home because of some random silly joke from your mama or papa or siblings?
  6. When's the last time you ~TRULY ~helped someone else, and it made you smile because you made someone's day. Or the last time you made a joke that made everyone laughed so hard?
  7. When's the last time you got sooo excited to start your day AND JUMP OUT OF BED because the day was so exciting for you, for some reason.

Check your answers. Do you like how you're spending your time?

Here are some important points of my Time Management seminar in school, which I got to be the speaker last year (when I was still a teacher):

Introduction~ "Time is gold." (rolls eyes, REALLY? this is sooooo cliché)

If you're understanding of this cliche is: time is money so I have to spend it wisely in a way that I can earn and or I am paid, bec it's money, after all. BEWARE: You are in danger.

If you're understanding of this cliche is: time is treasure that can let me enjoy life and its wonders and maybe getting and getting lots of things is a sure way to go about life.
You, also, are in danger.

If you're understanding of this cliche is: like gold, time can be esily taken away from me, so i have to make the most of it while I still can. And like gold, it's value is great that I need to really spend my time wisely and never waste any second of it just like I don't waste a gram of gold.
WELL, WELL: I think you're on the right track.

The very common problem we all have is that we think tomorrow is promised to us all so we waste our days away. BUT IT ISN'T! Tomorrow is not promised. Clearly. We don't know what tomorrow brings, so why do we not care about how we spend and take care of our time?! So how do we really maximize our time considering that uncertainty is our only certainty? Let me help you.

Here are very helpful tips that are personally proven by me to be effective in managing time:

1. BEGIN WITH AN END IN MIND.
This one's from the book "7 habits of Highly effective people" by Covey.

Here's the bit:
We are all gonna die. No one's exempted. And the sooner you really realize that, the more conscious are you of your TIME and be at peace with it.
Thinking that we are too young so we still have a lot of time is a myth. We delay lots of things because we think we have time. And then. We regret lots of things.

So you have to realize that there is no other moment as "now". When you apply this in your life, it will create massive POSITIVE changes. So start now.

2. BE FULLY PRESENT!
This is very self explanatory, and this is in support of #1. When you have an "end" in mind, you prioritize seamlessly because you're no longer "casually wasting" your time. This means you will be more focused on being "fully present" in every single thing that you do. You're more aware and conscious.

3. Widen your Perspectives

Picture these:

A person with cancer views time differently than a teen without cancer.
A person with a child views time differently than...
A person with a dying mother or father views time differently than.....
A person who just lost a marathon by point two milliseconds view time differently....
A person who got into an accident and survived...
A person who nearly got into an accident....
A person who's been a street child ever since views time differently....
A person who is born rich views time...

Would we really wait for "something bad" to happen to us so that we can realize how truly important time is?

So change your perspective as early as now.

4. Invest your time in meaningful relationships/ connections!

Your family, friends and significant other in life are worth investing your time in. Don't argue with me on this one. Please don't shut them off.

Quick TRUE story: On his deathbed, a dying rich man asked for his family and loved ones to be near him. He did not ask for his wealth and treasures.

5. Don't dwell too much on your emotions.

"Emotions never last. What makes us happy today, will no longer make us happy tomorrow, because our biology always needs something more. A fixation on happiness inevitably amounts to a never-ending pursuit of something else."--quote from Mark Manson

Anything "too much" will never bring us any good. It's good when we have a range of emotions-- we're HUMANS! That's normal. What's not normal is when you are driven by those emotions instead of you the one in control.

6. Learn to embrace uncertainty.

"The more you try to be certain about something, the more uncertain and insecure you will feel. But the converse is true as well. The more you embrace being uncertain of not knowing, the more comfortable you will feel in not knowing what you don't know." --Mark Manson

This is your ticket to freedom from anxieties, fears, doubts and worries. You ought to take that leap and welcome Uncertainties. That's how you overcome and at the same time enjoy life. That's just how it is.

FAQ I got from students:
"Is it considered a waste of time if I play so much games or do so much socmed?"

-My answer: Time spent having fun and being excited about what you're doing is never time wasted. Here's what time wasted looks like: worrying, fearing, and etcetera, thinking and obsessing of the past or of the future that YOU MISS OUT ON THE GIFT OF THE PRESENT --THE GLORIOUS SPECTACULAR PRESENT--THE NOW! --not forgiving, holding on to anger-- you are poisoning and imprisoning yourself altogether, it's a slow death, and surely it's what waste of time looks like.

I hope this post did not waste your time. 😅 Seriously though, I hope you picked a lesson or two from above.
