During the Golden Age, Dutch architecture flourished. This was propitiated by the prosperous economy and the expansion of the cities. New town halls and warehouses were built. The merchants who had made their fortune built new houses on the margins of the canals, these houses had very ornate facades, as that boasted of their new status.
