Today celebrated the day of the teacher, what pride those of us who are entering this guild; I graduated on November 15, 2015 where I obtained my title of Preschool Education Teacher at the El Macabro Rural Pedagogical Institute, a house of studies where many branches of education have graduated, including: preschool, physical education, rural education; math and many more. This day I want to dedicate these words to my colleagues who still practice, to those who like me are "new" with a position in a public school and those in a private one as well, and those who only have a degree but for one reason or another do not they are inside a classroom.
As the title of this post says: *Being a teacher is a do*, so it is and I think I say it further from my point of view, it is from my experience. I remember exactly when I was at least 8 years old, at home I had a very small blackboard where I wrote with white chalk, and a couple of younger cousins would sit down and I would teach them the letters as well as the numbers; I wanted to do that every day. Once I grew up and graduated from high school, I took the test to enter special education and unfortunately I did not stay, but I kept insisting, so much was my desire that after two more tests I managed to enter my house of studies, which I spoke to you about at first.
It was for the year 2009 where everything started and it was wonderful, I made my first group of classmates, but each semester it was complicated to register it and we had to leave at dawn specifically around 3:00 am to be able to have the morning subjects since many of us lived almost two hours away from the university, today I do not regret any of those risks I took. From hours in the morning they attended us almost at nine in the morning of the same day, having many hours without sleeping, we just talked and laughed a lot. The semesters passed and we had the "phases" as we called what many know as "internships"; In my case, they were divided into several and we went to different schools in each phase that corresponded to us, by the way, all of them far from our homes 😕.
There were many university strikes that my university joined and delayed my career, I planned to graduate earlier than expected and there were always complications, but they say there and I corroborate it: time of God is perfect; in the year 2015 were my last assistance activities and then in November was the long-awaited graduation, it was not until 2016 that I did substitutions in the preschool where I now got my position and I remember that I did not get paid until 2017 when my eldest son; It is worth noting that after six months as a substitute, I received two payments and extremely low ones.
In the month of October of the year 2020 I got a position near my home where I now enjoy teaching because it was always my purpose in life, to be a teacher. Why did I tell you about all of the above? Well, it's no secret to anyone that in Venezuela a teacher doesn't get rich financially, but he does get rich in values; we stay and continue to form a nation because we believe that there will be a great change and that change comes from the hand of education, if you are a teacher of any chair and any age you know that you are doing this because you want to and not because they force you, because salary " worthy" there is not; infrastructure either and retribution or gratitude seems to me much less.
It is not a complaint, it is a reality and even so we are proud of where we come from, where we are and where we are going; we have plenty of love, strength where there are none and the teacher is not measured by what he charges, but by the love and commitment in what he does and what better reward for a student is to see that he achieved "success" and may he always remember his teacher fondly.
