Hey Steemians, I want to talk about black hip hop right now. This post isn’t meant to judge anyone’s taste in music. It’s my view of things but I feel like a lot of people share it with me.
Firstly, I want to talk about black history. Black history, for the past few hundred years, has been painted with oppression and nothing but suffering, all being thrown on us by the white man. From slavery to police brutality, the black man has always been on the wrong end of the whip or gun as the case may be.
Now let’s look at music. From the dawn of time, music has always been a means to send a message. In the days of old, music was used to praise gods and kings. Then it was used to tell of the deeds of heroes and brave men. After that, it was used to send messages of love. But generally, messages of all kinds have been portrayed using music. So it was natural for the black community to use this to express themselves in their own way. This was the beginning of hip hop.
Hip hop was born on August 11th 1973 in Bronx. The father of hip hop was Clive Campbell, popularly known as DJ Cool Herc. He studied the patterns of the crowd and used it to make a new kind of sound.
In the late 1980’s N.W.A was formed. These young rappers (Ice Cube, Eazy-E, Dr Dre, Mc Ren, etc) wrote music about the life of young black men of the time. They used music to speak about the black oppression, the drug sales that they did to make ends meet and black life in general. While their songs weren’t always so pure, they had a message and they sent it.
The 1990’s had tupac and notorious B.I.G. These were men that spoke about life. Tupac spoke of the struggles of life and how we were never supposed to give up on our dreams, ever.
We have rappers like Jay-Z, Nas, Kanye West, the godfathers of hip hop. Their lyrics represent the black struggle as they saw it .
J. Cole and Khendrick Lamar coming in just after them carried on the trend.
But let’s take a look at the new generation.
Migos
Lil pump
Kodak Clack (sorry Black)
Lil Uzi Vert
XXX Tentacion
Lil Yatchy
Lil yatchy’s teeth look like fruit loops
XXX looks like a demon in almost every picture
I don’t even know what’s wrong with Uzi Vert
Kodak Black looks like he bought a few choice male parts and stapled them to his head
Lil pump is latino so he doesn't really count as far as this post is concerned. I just don't like the dude.
I can barely hear what Migos say half the time but honestly, everyone loves it when they echo their last word. WORD!! Lol.
We learn from our predecessors. J. cole said that growing up, he listened to Nas like he wrote the bible. Evidently, his music has depth, just like Nas’s. So let’s fast forward thirty years. One day, there’ll be a little drug abusing kid on TV and he’ll say something like this
Growing up I listened to Lil Pump. If rap is Christianity, then he was Jesus.
Honestly, most black music sucks right now. Go listen to Juicy J’s kamasutra featuring Cardi b if you have doubts. And I’m not a parent but if I was, I wonder what I would do if I heard my daughter singing along to that song. So the question is, will we get better or worse?
That's it for today guys, so if you liked it then please
