I always like walking in the rain,
so no one can see me crying.
― Charlie Chaplin

I like walking in storms
On empty streets;

An umbrella
Keeps me dry
And lets my feet
Take me places,
Far from trouble
And curious gazes.

I can’t walk away
From pain
But can hide
In rain,

Though puddles
Have eyes
And wink at me sly,
A million irises
Don’t determine
My inner yearnings…

No, nobody but me.

I can walk forever
Through a haze
Under heavy clouds
On dark days,

I can stroll
Until it seems
Spring rains
Will never end,
At least, until October…

Maybe, not even then—

And I can hide
Tears and pain…
Just by walking in the rain.
