Elusive as this moment—where the eye is what it sees,
where the heart is what it feels—this moment
shows us that what is real is sacred

As a writer,
I go deeper,
More uniquely distinct,
Not relying on strength.

I make no apology
About stirring the depths –

Every human longs
To swim under water
And see what lurks beneath.

I try to grasp you
But your mystery
Eludes me;

Feelings pass between us
Deeper than fleshly touches.

I could closet myself
And attempt to figure you out
But don’t;

I write wherever I am
Because that's where life is happening.

And I want all the words
Including the ones
That never quite describe you...

You’re an enchantress—
You take off your sweater
In the dark
And static flares;

I'm mesmerized
And can only stare.

Not in control
Without a firm spot,
This Archimedes
Can't move the world—

Let alone your heart.

While some contemplate
The mystery of stars
I'm content
To live each day;

In place of
An elusive truth
That shakes the soul

I gaze into your face.
