That's similar to me - I always go in order even when I record a hockey game - it doesn't matter to me if the game has already been played - I enjoy it as if seeing it in real time. Half the time when I write I have no idea of where the story is going myself so in a way I'm in the same situation as the reader, albeit with some control but many a time I don't like the outcome but leave it. I used to try to exert some control but that resulted in a twenty year delay in finishing my first novel. I didn't want to kill off one of my protagonists, but she had to go - I worked the story so many ways but in the end I had to kill my little darling, lol
