I know Leonard - we followed each other on Twitter - I was invited to meet him and several other Canadian poets by Raymond Souster, another poet who mentored me briefly when I was in university. I didn't go - I don't regret it - I wasn't ready. I don't know if I still am, but the video touched me very deeply because I also am a lover of Lorca and like Cohen dabbled with a guitar ( I have since not played for several years, but that's another matter). I agree that poetry comes from a place that is so mysterious as to not be defined - you don't own poems - you don't control them. Yes, I write them and have for many years now but I can't say from one day to the next if I will ever write another - there's this nothingness and then suddenly a seemingly insignificant inspiration and then the poem appears. I do agree with him about the importance of finding your own voice - but in order to do that you have to become someone first, and that only happens in solitude and silence. I call it a desert experience. Thank you for this, my friend.
