living things, man will not himself find peace.
― Albert Schweitzer
In a circle of light
Sheltered from storms
And stars at night;
But when I get out
In the open air
Tiny creatures
Live out there.
The rabbits' den
In the neighbour’s yard
Mourning doves nest
In the pine’s thick boughs;
Crows take wing
To the nearby woods
Under the hot tub
Is chipmunk’s nook.
Walls of society
Limit humanity;
But extend the circle
To all living things
And I learn compassion
And feel at peace.
