Haunt my memory,
Elusive
And tenuous.
A light dusting of flakes
at the mercy
of winds that blow
off the lake.
Solemn afternoon sunsets―
the sky red,
Streets desolate;
And old man Butterfield
salting and scraping
what little snow is left...
Rubbing the gilt
off my gingerbread.
