― George Carlin
So we get shadow—
But in heaven
They tell me
There's no black
Or charcoal
Everything lit from within.
Not so, on earth
Where there’s sin…
Consequently
Things get hidden,
Well, perhaps that's
My opinion;
But look within
And see the shadow self
Our ancestors made
When they disobeyed.
I’m serious, now
That’s how
We ended up frayed
And full of sin.
Both of us...
Our life in noir
And I, the worst transgressor
By far
Am left guessing
Motives and deeper purposes
In this silent film
Of gestures.
Well, that’s my take—
We’re not whole;
Sin made us
Come apart,
But after life
Has broken us
Can we at least
Make art?
