Much Water and a Flock of Sheep in the Mountains (14 images) | Ecency

You could call this post a follow-up to the post from the day before yesterday. Only this time the views are quite a bit wider and not so intimate.

When I drove on this beautiful toll road to the Kölnbreinsperre / Kölnbrein Dam, which is the biggest Reservoir in Austria (https://www.verbund.com/en-at/about-verbund/visitors-centres/malta), I called it a scouting trip, because I haven't been there since I was a kid. I couldn't remember anything there and didn't even have that much time to explore more.

"Fallbachfall" Waterfall

Shortly before you arrive the toll station where you access the 14.4 kilometers / 8.9 miles long Malta Hochalmstraße / Malta High Alpine Road you can see the highest waterfall in Carinthia to the right. The Fallbachfall (https://www.europeanwaterfalls.com/waterfalls/fallbachfall-maltatal/) is over 150 meters (492 ft) high (220 m / 721 ft all in all) and there's even a via ferrata besides the waterfall: Fallbach via ferrata Maltatal.

Below the Kölnbreinspeicher / Kölnbrein Reservoir there's this little lake called Galgenbichlspeicher, which is also a reservoir. There I could watch a flock of sheep running one after the other across the slope on the other side of the valley. You might see these sheep also in the next photos. Of course, there's also a waterfall, but this one seems to have no name, just as I haven't found the name of the river that flows into the reservoir.

And this is the Dam of the Kölnbrein Reservoir Dam which is located at an altitude of 1.933 meters / 6,341.90 feet. The dam is 200 meters / 656 feet high and 626 meters / 2,053.81 feet wide. It is the biggest Dam Wall in Austria.

I have been there very early in the morning - I think I have been the first who paid the toll at the entrance. So I have had the whole dam for me alone.

Also the Airwalk, a platform on top of the dam was there just for me that morning. The two glass plates on which you can stand and see 200 meters below the ground were wet from morning dew, so I couldn't see much, but it is a quite nice view down anyway, as you might be able to imagine ;)

This post began with a waterfall and it will end with one. But I have no idea what this waterfall is called, but I kind of like it more than the other one. This one is located near the Blauer Tumpf / Blue Pond I have been talking about in my last post and the river is called Hochalmbach, but as said, I don't know the waterfall's name.
