An analysis of a critique of Pseudonym Pairs, and the bias behind it ("social mind bias", note: all humans have that, the idea that some do and some do not is just a local myth within some consensus trances, an enforcement mechanism for a monopoly on violence under a pecking order to be exact. )
Public-private key systems - digital signatures - were invented in the 1970s, and hinted at the possibility to do authentication of transactions without the need for human oversight, a so called "trustless" system, subordinated a singular mathematical formula that had properties that were equivalent to what social organization such as a nation-state has been used for, replacing what has previously required human hierarchies. That was an idea that as very very new, and also unprecedented, and counter-intuitive to how the human brain is biased to understanding what to trust, what can be called "social mind bias".
The social brain hypothesis from people like Robin Dunbar and Susan Blackmore suggests that what made us human is our ability to social cognition, to follow ideas based on trust, that capacity was selected for with the expansion of the frontal lobe over the past million years. Edward O´Wilson defined the human species as a eusocial species, that forms mass-scale societies and is able to cultivate memes and develop technology as a result of that, in complex economies, a "hive mind" in a sense, as a result of adapting for eusocial brains.
"Trust technology" and a new stage in human evolution
Ethereum is Adam Smith's "invisible hand" in physical form, and the type of technology it represents, "world computer" technology, has the potential to operate much better than just unintended benefits of self-interested actions, since it is also under collective control, the best of two worlds.
Trustless technology, like public-private key systems, are counter-intuitive since trust is how the human brain has evolved to understand the world and to focus attention, it precedes perception. The possibility to have a third party that can be trusted, without being represented by a human being, is counter-intuitive to the social mind, and may represent an evolutionary leap similar to the origin of culture and complex social organization to begin with. (There is also the possibility that it is a pipe dream that has just not been proven wrong yet. )
Blockchain (trustless) technology as an a-social system
Blockchain technology is an a-social system, as in, not a social system, and that is counter-intuitive and probably the main reason so many people are unable to wrap their head around it.
Pseudonym Pairs as a trustless identity system
Pseudonym Pairs is an identity system based on zero degrees of separation. That makes it counter-intuitive in some ways, as it is not a social system whereas human cognition is primarily social, e.g. social mind bias. To wrap your head around it you need to actually study it as a formal system for a few minutes. https://panarchy.app/Proof-of-power.pdf
