In the book of the prophet Jeremiah 42:19, the Lord gave the Word of warning to his people Israel, saying:
Oh remnant of Judah; Do not go to Egypt, you certainly know that I warn you today.
These same words of warning from God to his people Israel, is the same word of alert for his church today.
Egypt represented slavery to Israel. Pharaoh treated people harshly, to the point of leading a life of slavery and suffering. For more than 400 years, the children of Israel were slaves in Egypt, until they cried out to God, who, having mercy on them, raised them as a deliverer who would take them out of the land of slavery and suffering. It is about Moses, who had the responsibility to get God's people out of Egypt and take him through a desert until they were introduced into the promised land.
To speak of Egypt is to speak of a place of pain, anguish, suffering, persecution and slavery. In Egypt, the work of the people of Israel was to make mud to accumulate the bricks with which the immense cities would do for the Egyptians. It was not an easy job, however, God's mercies were maintained over his people, to strengthen and multiply him in Egypt.
Returning to Egypt meant resorting to slavery and suffering.
During their stay in the desert, on several occasions people in the midst of lack of water or food, longed for moments, returning to Egypt.
The desert was a challenging and challenging stage for the people of Israel. God wanted to form the character of his people, and on several occasions he made them go through complex and difficult situations, such as crossing the Red Sea, thirsting in the desert and starving in the desert. They were difficult and overwhelming moments that the people of Israel lived, however, God wanted his people to learn to develop faith in their God.
Despite the hard situations they lived in the desert, God advises his people: "Do not go to Egypt."
However harsh the tests the people of Israel will face, God's advice remains: "Do not go to Egypt."
The meaning of Egypt for the church today is the world.
Just as Egypt represented slavery to Israel, the world represents the slavery of sin.
God raised Moses to free his people from the slavery of Egypt, God raised Christ to take his church out of the slavery of the world.
The permanence of the people of Israel in the desert, where they faced trials and challenges, that same desert, are the difficult times of God's demand to test the faith of his church.
To return to the world is to resort to the slavery of sin. The Word is also for the church: "Do not go to Egypt (world).
The Christian who throws his pearls at the pigs is returning his holiness to the world (Sin).
The Lord said: "Holiness adapts to my house."
To lead life in holiness, even in the middle of a desert, is to maintain the hope that God will also make you enter the promised land (Paradise of God).
God's warning today for his people is: "Don't go to Egypt."
