I agree if you cannot meet a compromise, go it alone.

My Mom traveled North on many trips doing it on her own, my Dad suffered with his back and preferred to stay at home.

Enjoy your trip Joy, the last place I would be is on a cruise, having done a couple in my lifetime it does not hold great appeal, I prefer to travel by train sadly something we don't have enough of here in South Africa, we cannot live in the past so maybe just stay with going local by car.
