I am only able to speak of conditions my own country, how times have changed. Majority sit with no medical insurance relying on the government where most good working hospitals are down, forcing one to take out an insurance, or biting the bullet on running the gauntlet entering into run down institutions that used to be the pride of a country.
Let me back track when I had any procedures including having my children I opted for government hospitals, not trusting the idea of private hospitals, government hospitals were well staffed, spotlessly clean, you were not offered a menu to select meals like some hotel, you went to hospital for a reason to get better.
Fast track forward, today the exact same hospitals I had my children delivered via C-Section due to complications discovered with first son, are now run down, an embarrassment, still run by devoted doctors and nursing staff, under staffed and over whelmed by massive increase in population. Still no menu, in fact many struggling to feed patients.
Step back in time, medical aids everyone employed had to pay, ideology behind the system was younger generation support older generation, who knows when you needed a hospital it is never planned, one certainty was older folk required a little more attention due to age, no one argued it was a working system in place.
Reality check in modern living, all the years you paid in not utilizing the medical aid (yes some swindled the system), majority had annual checkup in dentistry, ophthalmology and general practitioner when required. On retirement you no longer had the medical aid, as in previous structure my parents had, now you on your own, find your own way!
Medical Insurance came into being, new ideas where you now pay monthly and are given a Savings Account, structured on tiers, hidden in code the doctor no longer sends you the invoice it goes directly to the medical insurance, most run out of 'savings' in no time at all. Remember under this insurance only approved practitioners may service your requirements. Now my question, is this what we call fraud or is this just how it will be, those making money hand over fist say so!
If I were at the age of twenty once more I would save and pay my own way, only taking out a hospital insurance option, to which you have to add GAP cover for doctors/specialist allowed to pay up to 500% over normal rates.
Disillusioned these modern ideas are taking money and running, lets take a look at private with parking lots like hotels, food menu like the Ritz! Is this happening in other countries, what happened to medical aid systems when people took pride and care of each other.
Not a pleasant topic to discuss, what needs to be restructured to make available to all in a fair manner, much like financial institutions and others looking to fleece you around each corner you turn in life.
Why I ended up visiting the hospital was to take my son to the Dermatologist who did a procedure where he did not know whether he should drive directly after, I walked around looking at of what was once an exceptionally small hospital, now has variety of levels in doctors rooms, it became a huge established hospital at a cost, open to those able to afford it!
My thoughts are with Ukraine where young mothers with children or elderly battling to walk escaping mayhem. Hiding underground the sick and wounded lay alongside maternity wards in make shift hospitals helping each other. A country where many have nothing when the come above ground.
And so we come to the end of this Market Friday with @dswigle hosting the show, yes you pay wherever you go, choose wisely you can see a lot along the way. Happy Friday!
