Wild Garden Never Raked
A corner of the garden where the big trees stand many years of frustration trying to plant this area with flowers, bags and bags of compost added to try make this a place to relax.
Many years later (about 25 years ago) gave up on the corner having flowers, turned it green with ferns that loved the soil and thrived! Living close to the coast soil erosion happens quite quickly if not attended to, something must bind the soil, growing in deep shade became a problem.
Dogs love running through, at the moment on patrolling the perimeter, garden guards sniffing who possibly visited.
We planted what we thought to be the Natal Cycad, only to later learn it is a Cardboard Plant, twenty plus years later the first seed pod decided to reveal itself.
Leaf in the center going higher than the ferns is the actual Cardboard plant the leaf stems appear further away.
Holly type leaf of the Natal Cycad this plant is re-establishing itself under the tree, deep green thorny leaves looking a lot healthier to being in a pot.
Staghorn fern happily suspended silver-green leaves reaching for the ground with an orchid or two hidden in between.
Since nothing under this shaded area need watering, except the dog doing what a dog does best with a tree. Green in variety of shades made this corner of the garden a pleasure a little on the wild side.
