Slow Roast ~ Our Future or Take a Stand Now?
Tuesday via our snail mail postal system notification was received to collect a registered letter at the post office, when opening this letter found notification of a cellphone tower mast proposal right across the road from us on premises at the end of a church ground.
Wednesday we visited local municipality planning department, due to slow postal system we have two weeks to object in writing, Gyro/Telkom sub-contractor personnel are unable to disclose what will even be erected 36 meters above our heads.
City planning department allows you to read the documentation, they were not happy about taking photographs (I still took some with my cell which are not really legible), everyone seems pumped and ready to implement without due consideration to this being in residential area.
Yes we do need to move forward in planning the future, 2 masts within 1 kilometer are already in the area, now latest claim is due to the hills cannot reach business being developed down the hills. Plenty adjacent hills where power lines run through could be used, why in residential zone.
Friday we discussed with church where mast will be placed at the end of property obtained approximately fifteen years ago, purchased our home 1983, I am no engineer, this has sent me reeling of in a tizz, what would you suggest?
On our doorstep, literally in the photo the tree with the broken limb is to be removed, this is apparently ground zero for base of the tower, my neighbours driveway gate and roof clearly visible where children aged 4 to 15 years live.
Progress or Potential Danger
With huge sums of money being spent in technology (which we enjoy daily), billions are being spent in our case supposedly for 3g and 4g connection, however who is to say 5g (Slow cook) won't be slipped high up on the mast without notification in a year or two?
Greed has already been unveiled in development taking place where masts are being put up with little thought behind long term consequences.
The illegal MTN roll-out in Durban sparked concerns about the sudden proliferation of cell masts across the country. As a result of public concern, citizens across South Africa founded a national lobby group National Alliance Against Cell Masts (NAACM). The aim of this group is to assist people to combat unwanted and unnecessary cell masts in South Africa, to pressure the South African government into revising microwave radiation limits from cell masts, and to lobby for communication technologies that are less potentially harmful.
Over the past 5 years we were assured by Telkom that Fiber Optics was being rolled out, the safe option avoiding cable theft, that is until recently a sudden change in plan to raise ugly masts, boost business. No Gyro/Telkom have not increased employment to make significant impact either.
According to growth of company the 74 member increase in staff were Telkom employees, people who were already employed. Basically in total 2 new positions came into being over a one year period.

- 7 = 74 Telkom company employees were transferred to Gyro.
What are the possible side affects:
No definitive long term scientific observations have been documented to our knowledge, after much online research we have discovered that after approximately 6 to 10 years cases of cancer have occurred.
Children spend holidays within the grounds of the church, what affects in the long term would this impose on the child, not forgetting children living in the immediate surroundings that will be exposed seven days a week. "The impact is higher in children, who have smaller and thinner skulls."
New technology has not been properly tested, European countries are banning in certain regions due to high Electro Magnetic Field (microwave radiation) affects are not known. Wildlife, insects, birds in the region may also be affected along with pets.
Homes will be devalued next to a cell phone tower/mast emitting pulses in the immediate neighbourhood when open land is available on the hills close by to small business developments.
Possibility of higher criminal activity due to batteries being stolen from cellular towers.
There are 2 masts on sites within 1km radius from proposed new tower?
To err on the side of caution one should approach this with some insight with proposal of new technology 5G towers, not properly tested.

OK so I am in my sixties, most probably suffer from all the above where they count, or the powers that be will lead me to them sooner.... My thought is for the children visiting the church through school holidays, those living in homes in close proximity, our environment does not deserve a death penalty, that is all living things inclusive!

Visual pollution.
Basically what people are trying to sell you is if don't see it, does it affect you. Well my immediate reaction was I don't want this ugly contraption on my doorstep, we deal with much higher levels of noise pollution, excessively high demand on land for development, now they want to slow roast my brain to advance the coffers of telecommunication giants, all in the name of progression.
Personally I don't need my kettle to be switched on remotely, lights switched on via a cellphone connection, each person is going to have to make a decision as to what they will accept moving forward for their families, I write this to alert people to be careful what you wish for, where doctors and scientists are being ignored when raising alarms to possible dangers.
Life is a gift, 3g to 4g has sufficed, fiber optics would have been more welcome than what is being imposed on us, I look forward to reading comments from people who are more informed, possibly able to allay my fears. In the meantime should I not be present here, be sure to know I am fighting this 36 meter tower from being erected on my doorstep.
