This is one of the book series.
If you remember, I posted the second one 'Bottom belle' last month.
This is the first one which explains Zoya's side of the story.

I liked it but if I were to be honest I wish I had just read only one of the two.

4⭐

Ifemelu, hmmm.
I don't know what word best describes you.

As for you Obinze, hmmm.

Good ideas only exist in Curt's head.

Blaine, if I were Ifem I prolly would have left you a long time ago.

💅

This is actually my first time reading a Chimmamanda.
I know so don't bitch out at me.
I kept these books for the longest.
I don't even know why I didn't read them as a child. Probably because reading didn't matter to me much then.

Nevertheless, I see why she's called the queen of writers in Nigeria and West Africa.
I felt different emotions reading this particular one.
I wanted to do a slow reading but it was so so interesting.

I'm just imagining the kind of backlash she had to face because of the truth and facts in her books about race and politics.
TBH the world is messed up and she explicitly used her power to lay the problems out. It is left for us to know how to deal with those problems.

Salute Chimmamanda Ngozi Adichie.

For a five year old, Trevor you did have a smart mouth.
5 year old me would never. After saving my life, I'd receive a spanking for saying any other thing than "Sorry mummy" or "Thank you mummy".

"Life is full of pain. Let the pain sharpen you, but don’t hold on to it. Don’t be bitter"
"My mother wanted her child beholden to no fate. She wanted me to be free to go anywhere, do anything, be anyone"

  • This book is a life lesson. For one, I think Trevor's mum is a star. She is whom alot of mothers aren't in our society today. We still have alot of women either teaching their daughters to be good wives or teaching them to be unsubmissive and cold hearted but nobody is teaching these boys how to be good men and husbands.

Alot of pampering is going on and it takes only the grace of God to find men who found it themselves to be good to all women and their one woman and wife as designed by God.

  • Money lessons too? 😂
    Time is indeed money.
  • Find the good in every bad situation, leverage on it if possible and be grateful for it.

*Ha! Mama Trevoh. What do you mean God gavee that ass for whooping?

Do you know at the beginning of the month I was like "I want to read a crime related novel. Something like the movies I've watched".

The crime scenes didn't crime as I expected them to Sha but it came out good.
It has the "I do not come to you by chance" vibe in some kind of way.

Actually, I wasn't expecting the storyline like that. I got confused at the point where Chike got down with Patience and wasn't bothered she had been disowned
and all I kept saying is "Life is risky".

Chike's death pained me. The typical way Nigeria happens to a bright youth.

In all, I'd say the choices we make today can either make or mar us and the people we love in the future.
