South of Here
I desire the things which will destroy me in the end.
-Sylvia Plath
Two young boys
playing
hide-and-seek
discovered
her body
in the wintery woods
south of here,
bare as the limbs
of the tree
she lay under.
Some say
she swallowed paint
until she eventually
drowned.
Some say
she stabbed herself
to death
with a paintbrush.
Yes, some even say
she found
what she loved
and let it do
the rest.
