I plan to make a hooded towel for each of my grandsons. The process involves personalizing a hand towel and then sewing it to a bath towel. I have watched several YouTube videos on the process. I like two in particular for different reasons. One video shows how to make the hood for the towel with a lining so that the embroidery does not scratch the head of the child. There is a remedy for that. There is a product named Gentle Touch that can be applied to the embroidered area so that it is smooth.
The other video that I like includes a procedure that lets you round off the the sides of the hood so that it is not pointed. I like that design. I plan to use a combination of the two methods.
Today I did a trial run on an inexpensive towel so that I could see if there were any problems with my design.
I have already purchased some nice fluffy towels to use for the actual finished product, but today I used a thinner version with some blue HTV (heat transfer vinyl) with an appliquéd puppy.
I also included a number 1 in the design since one of my grandsons is one year old.
I liked the font that I chose for his nickname, but I think that the gray color would look better instead of the black color.
I also needed either a satin stitched 1 instead of the 1 that just stitched the outline of the number.
All in all, I really like the blue puppy with the gray satin stitch around it. I just need to make some modifications to the final design before I embroider it on my good towels. I am enjoying my new machine.
